Sandemac Kennel Club

Sandemac Kennel Club of Decatur, Illinois is a nonprofit, all-volunteer dog club Americanrecognized by The American Kennel Club. Sandemac was founded in the 1940s and to this day remains a group dedicated to promoting the interest of dogs and breeders of purebred dogs.

Sandemac Kennel Club is dedicated to providing members with an opportunity to learn about and become involved in the sport of showing dogs. The club sponsors two all breed dog shows a year. Our spring show is held the fourth Sunday of April at our new location for 2009 at Progress City near Richland College.

The fall show is held with two other clubs the third weekend of October at the Illinois State Fairground in Springfield, Illinois. The shows draw hundreds of exhibitors from across the United States to compete for prizes and the coveted Group and Best In Show wins.

There are other important aspects to membership in the Sandemac Kennel Club, such as public education, community involvement and the camaraderie of sharing your interest in dogs with people who share that interest. One of our services is open handling classes every Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m.. Special Spring and Fall Classes available.

Everyone is welcome to attend and work their dogs in a conformation style ring. Showing dogs
is often referred to as an “art” because of the skill, time and energy necessary to obtain a champion dog. Our open handling classes help to develop the skills necessary to compete.

Sandemac membership meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at Northgate Pet Clinic facilities starting at 7:00pm. The meetings include club business, a discussion session or a speaker, and time to meet and socialize with other club members.
